I have stayed there more than ten times. I like it because they offer single rooms for a very reasonable price. The rooms are well designed and have desk space (you might want to ask for a room in the “new wing,” which is more updated). It is close to the Kyoto Train Station but far from the landmark-dense area. This was never an issue for me, but it might be for some.
Hi Igor. I love reading about your walks. I will soon re-read your Taipei series as I will stay there for a few days on my way back to Tokyo from Istanbul in early January.
I saw a NHK? TV program where someone did this recently. I'm looking forward to reading how you get on.
Kyoto isn't the only city where you can do significant day mountainous hikes. On my Less Known Japan substack I wrote about hiking Ushitayama the mountain in the middle of Hiroshima - https://lessknownjapan.substack.com/p/hiroshima-ushitayama?r=7yrqz . There are several other mountains you can hike from Hiroshima plus, of course, there's Miyajima a short train ride/ferry away
May your hike be full of wonders and delight, Burcu! I look forward to reading your posts, as I travel to Kyoto soon for the very first time: a long-cherished dream.
Have fun and good luck. We should never underestimate the appeal of straightforward logistics! The Kumano Kodo has been on my list for a number of years and organizing has been too painful.
The hotel you stayed at looks wonderful! I’m heading to Kyoto soon and would love to do a day hike or two along the trail, weather permitting.
Hope you enjoy Kyoto and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!
Thanks so much! Did you enjoy that hotel?

Amazing thank you!!
Looking forward to read as I often do this kind of semi-urban hikes with convenience of one hotel. Hope it is not crowded.

I will definitely check it out and also share it with friends who will soon be spending some time in that area. Thank you for sharing.
Have a wonderful time Burcu, I look forward to reading all about your trip.
Thank you Joanne!
Very exciting, can't wait to read your travelogue!!
Thank you for your interest Soren!

Hi Fiona, thank you for the wishes! I hope you have a wonderful time in Kyoto.
So jealous! I've really been wanting to visit Japan these last couple of years. Going to have to live through your blog until I do.
So interesting! Thank you for sharing about this experience, I'm glad to discover it through you. Happy hiking!
